There really is so much to see and do in the area that you could spend a month here and barely scratch the surface. The links below will hopefully point you towards some things that will help you plan your trip.

Discover Assynt is a great site to show what events are happening in the area, especially outdoor ones.
Assynt entertainments organise events such as concerts and dances at the village hall in Lochinver.
NorthWest Highlands Geopark has a wealth of information on the area.
Historic Assynt highlights our landscape all the way back to Neolithic times.
Cam Mac Boat Trips run spectacular fishing and signtseeing cruises from the harbour in Lochinver.
Assynt Angling is the place to look if you are a trout fisher.
Sporting lets are the people to contact for salmon fishing on the Inver or Kirkaig rivers.

Places to eat

Not all of those listed are open year round, so please check first if you are on a winter break.
An Cala does the best value meals in the area and has lovely family fare.
The Caberfeidh is our nearest pub/restaurant and usually has live music on Thursday nights.
The Culag is a local institution going back decades. Serves great home cooked food and Sheila's soup is gorgeous.
Chez Roux at Inver Lodge - French chef Albert Roux has a restaurant in Lochinver offering gourmet dining with spectacular views.
Kylesku Hotel is a little way out of the village, but we had to include them just because they do great food.
Lochinver Larder known locally as the pie shop, it has been serving great meals (including home baked pies) for as long as we can remember.
Peet's Restaurant is right on the harbour and a great place to sample local seafood, as well as a wide selection of other dishes.

There are many more in the area (not all with websites) from a chippie at the beach to a seafood van at the harbour with a range of amazing coffee shops and home baking all around.

Retail Therapy

Lochinver has a small selection of lovely shops and with more to visit in the surrounding villages, it's not a bad place to take a bit of weight out of the wallet.

Achins is a super bookshop, craftshop and coffeeshop in Kirkaig. It's ideally situated right next to the car park on the Kirkaig falls walk.
The Rockpool has lovely gifts.
Highland Stoneware must be Lochinver's most famous export. Beautiful hand painted pottery.
Little soap and candle company and Secret tea garden lovely scented soap and candles.
Stephen Greenlees and Son supply us with fresh meat! Need I say more?
Culkein Jammery supply all our Jams and Marmalades and they do a mean coffee and cake.
